When I was younger I could not understand why your eyes followed me around the room, outside the door and across the street. When I was younger I could not understand the extra sweater I had to wear, the hat, the gloves, the shoes I wore on my feet. When I was younger I could not understand going to church every Sunday morning, saying yes and yes ma'am to show respect. I know now that you wanted me to be safe, to feel loved, to be proud to be me and to know God for myself.
Thank you for these gifts of maturity.
I WAS glad when they said unto me,
Let us go into the house of the Lord
